System software refers to the software that manages the hardware, resources and applications necessary for the computer to run. Here are several categories and examples within each.
Programs that help analyze, configure or maintain a computer
Word processor, spreadsheet, email, finance, calendar, etc.
Screen savers, video games, software art, etc.
These are programs that perform specific tasks and that run on top of the operating system. Here are some examples of types of applications.
Malware is any type of code or program that causes harm to your system. These programs include viruses, worms, trojans, rootlkits, spyware, ransomeware and more.

Animation, audio & video editing, music, graphic design, etc.
